Year 10 Alice performs violin concerto with Bristol Youth Orchestra

correction-1This weekend, Alice, in Year 10, gave a stunning performance of the 1st movement of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major with Bristol Youth Orchestra. Being chosen to perform was a tremendous achievement, with Bristol Youth Orchestra showcasing some of the best musical talent from young players across the city.

The conductor of the orchestra, Tim Harrison, commented: "Alice’s responsiveness to the orchestra, engagement with the audience and fantastic tone quality brought real vitality to this concerto. She captivated us all with her virtuosic cadenza. Her playing and musicianship continues to grow from strength to strength."

Alice is a music and academic scholar at Redmaids’ High School. Along with her academic studies, this outstanding young musician has already achieved Grade 8 Violin with Distinction and is currently working towards her Grade 8 in Piano. At age 12, she played in a masterclass at the school for renowned violinist Nicola Benedetti CBE. Alice participates in many of the school ensembles, including the Whitson Quartet, where she has provided music for the Royal Navy and has recently performed the Dvorák American Quartet as an opening act for the Bristol Ensemble. Music has always been a special part of her life and she especially enjoys performing with other musicians who also share the same interests and passions. Alice’s other interests include an enthusiasm for Art and other creative pursuits.

Mrs Harrison, Director of Music at Redmaids’ High School, said: “Alice performed with wonderful assurance and poise and her cadenza, in particular, was played with real flair. We are incredibly proud of her, and we want to congratulate her on this fantastic achievement.”.

And she continued: “Here at Redmaids’ High we pride ourselves on our music provision. Our inclusive and engaging curriculum helps our students to build on their individual music skills and become the musicians they want to be. Our music department is a buzzing place where the girls can get out of their comfort zone and explore their creative side. And this is our aim; to give them the opportunity to develop themselves artistically, inspiring in them a life-long passion for music.”.
