This year, we are delighted to introduce our new Head Girls, Freya and Jolee. As figureheads of the Sixth Form, they take on the responsibility of representing their peers, supporting younger students and working closely with staff to uphold the values and spirit of the school.
Here we take the opportunity to get to know them a little better...
When did you join Redmaids’ High School?
Freya: I joined Redmaids’ High in Year 7, after moving from Oxford. Although it was quite a tough transition - being in a new city, joining a school where I knew no one and having to deal with constant lockdowns – I was surprised by how quickly I was welcomed into the community. Many friendships I had made in Year 7 have grown and flourished with me over the years, with many still being my closest friends.
Jolee: I joined Redmaids’ High in September 2026, but it honestly feels like I’ve been here forever (in the best way possible!). I came from a school with over 2000 students, so moving here was a huge change for me. However, I settled in really quickly, and I’ve loved getting to know everyone!
What subjects are you studying in Sixth Form?
Freya: I study Spanish, English Literature, Politics and Russian.
Jolee: I am studying Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, alongside an EPQ.
What do you love most about Redmaids’ High?
Freya: I love the amount of opportunities available to all students, from singing to textiles, or art to sport, there’s something for everyone. There are clubs everyday during lunch and after school, but there are also opportunities available on the weekend. I love how you can get to know different people through taking part in these clubs and find what interests you outside of the classroom.
Jolee: I love the warm atmosphere and sense of community. Everyone is so friendly and supportive! It’s so inspiring to see the different talents and strengths people bring to the school. I find it amazing that everyone encourages each other to do their best.
What inspired you to go for the position of Head Girl?
Freya: I remember the feeling of seeing past Head Girls around school and how they were such great role models for me, so I went for the role as I would love to have the opportunity to be a role model for the younger years. I feel like it’s so important to give back to the school community, as it has helped me become who I am today and being Head Girl allows me to help make the school the best place it can be.
Jolee: I have not always been the most confident person, but joining Redmaids’ High has helped me to explore a more outgoing side of myself. Seeing our previous Head Girls Alice and Prarthana do so exceptionally in their roles and the way that they shaped the school is truly inspiring. I thought I’d put myself out there as I am excited by the opportunity to bring new ideas and work with students across the school to make a positive difference.
What changes would you like to bring to the school as part of the Head Girls team?
Freya: I would like to further increase the sense of community in school and beyond. This could be in the form of more collaboration with the Juniors or more events with other schools. As part of this, I would also like to further improve the community feel across year groups, by increasing House Spirit or providing other ways to connect outside of the school environment, allowing people to build meaningful connections outside of their own year group.
Jolee: As part of the Head Girls team, I would really like to focus on strengthening student voice and making sure absolutely everyone feels heard. I hope to work closely with the school council and students across all year groups to gather feedback and a wide range of ideas, so we can introduce initiatives that genuinely reflect what students want to see within the school.
What are you most looking forward to throughout your year as Head Girl?
Freya: I’m really looking forward to working with so many different people - not only with Jolee, but also with the rest of the leadership team - and to see what great ideas we come up with. I’m also very excited for Jolee and I to head school council in order to hear and take on board the students' ideas. Lastly, I know both my parents and I are very excited for Founders Day, as they get to sit on the front row in the cathedral!
Jolee: Definitely wearing the traditional robes on Founders’ Day! I really enjoyed my first Founders’ Day experience and I’m very enthusiastic about being a part of it this year! Also, the upcoming end of term report has struck a mix of fear and excitement within me, and I can’t wait to see what Freya and I come up with! Most of all, I look forward to collaborating with the leadership team and the school council to represent the ideas of students across the whole school community.
Finally, can you share with us what you think will be the best thing about working alongside each other as part of the school’s Head Girls team?
Freya: I can’t wait to work with Jolee as part of the Head Girl team and to learn a lot from her in the year to come. Although she only joined at the start of Year 12, it’s like she’s been here forever! She effortlessly joined the year group and her friendly nature meant that she easily got along with everyone. Her sense of self-assuredness is inspiring, and her great work ethic already shows what a great Head Girl she will be. I’m very excited to begin our work together!
Jolee: The first time I met Freya, I could instantly tell she was such a cool, friendly and genuine person! Getting to know her better has shown me how diligent, thoughtful and charismatic she is, and I know we already work really well as a team. I’m really excited to support each other throughout the year and make a positive difference together. She will be such a reliable and dedicated teammate!
