Engaging in constant opportunities for robust learning, expressive communication, empathetic teamwork, passionate leadership, independent thinking and creative problem-solving is what makes life at Redmaids’ High Junior School so much fun! Our pupils learn happily and most effectively when they are equipped with the optimum toolkit for the job.
As an iPad learning school for ten years, we recognise that knowledge is stored in our fingertips. The internet gives our pupils access to facts, figures, explanations, demonstrations, images and documentation. It’s the skills needed to remember, understand, apply, analyse and evaluate knowledge which are at the forefront of learning today.
So what does school life built upon the foundation stones of these learning characteristics look like? In the first week of term, we celebrated teamwork in our Circus Day, designed to bring together girls from all year groups. The girls certainly needed to support each other doing the trike-riding tricks! Tilly’s eloquent and entertaining presentation on her safari trip had us all wishing we were there too. After sorting out an IT problem with Mr Hayward, Gabriella went on to problem-solve similar IT issues for her classmates - phew! The first Robotics Club session got underway, where the girls think independently to create models, overcome hurdles and code complex missions. To be robust learners, we encourage our pupils to be curious, probing and persistent. Freya’s effective and enthusiastic questioning this week pushed learning forward for herself and for those around her. In fact, Miss Gollop said “Freya wants to absorb everything. She asks the questions that other girls may be hesitant to voice.” And our Year 6 school leaders were announced: House and Sports Captains will be leading through example as our role models this term - congratulations to Florence, Lauren, Bella, Anji, Annie, Alexis, Isla, Tilly, Izzy and Elizabeth!
