Five top tips for revision

So, you’ve finished school for study leave, you’ve got your exam timetable and now all you need to do is revise. But where do you start? Whether it's your GCSEs, AS Levels, A Level or IB exams, knowing where to begin with revision can be really daunting. We asked our wonderful teaching staff for their top revision tips and here are their recommendations.

  1. Make a timetable: By making a timetable you can split your revision into manageable chunks, you’ll be able to see which subjects you need to cover on any given day, and this will help you feel on top of what you want to achieve from your revision each day.

  2. Set goals for yourself: Whether it is getting to the end of a chapter, memorizing a set of verbs, or simply knowing what you want to have completed by the end of the day, setting mini goals for yourself can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and keep your mind focused.

  3. Mix it up: We all learn in different ways so try to find the revision methods that work best for you. It could be writing notes, doing practice papers, revising in a group or a combination of methods. Mixing it up will help to keep you feeling engaged and not make your revision feel dull.

  4. Take a break: Revising for hours at a time can leave you feeling lethargic and can make it difficult to concentrate. Take regular breaks, get outside for some fresh air, and give yourself time to switch off so that you come back to your revision refreshed and ready to focus again.

  5. Sleep: We all feel better after a good night’s sleep and getting lots of sleep is so important whilst you are preparing for your exams. A good night’s sleep will enable you to absorb everything you have learnt during the day and help you feel motivated for more revision in the morning.

Now you are armed with the toolkit to make your revision a productive and hopefully stress-free experience. Don’t forget, if you are feeling overwhelmed whilst preparing for your exams, you are not alone. Your family, friends, and teachers are all there for you and want to help you succeed so be sure to reach out to them if you need any support.
