Five top tips for revision

JMB08876So, you’ve finished school for study leave, got your exam timetable and now all you need to do is revise. But where do you start?

Knowing where to begin with revision can be daunting, whether it's your GCSEs, AS Levels, A Level or IB exams. We asked our wonderful teaching staff for their top revision tips and here are their recommendations.

  1. Make a timetable: You can divide your revision into manageable chunks by creating a well-structured timetable. This will help you see which subjects you need to cover on any given day and give you a sense of control over your revision. You'll feel more confident about what you want to achieve from your revision each day.

  2. Set goals for yourself: Whether it is getting to the end of a chapter, memorizing a set of verbs, or simply knowing what you want to have completed by the end of the day, setting mini goals for yourself can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed and keep your mind focused.

  3. Mix it up: We all learn in different ways, so finding the revision methods that work best for you is important. Whether writing notes, doing practice papers, revising in a group, or combining methods, variety is key. Mixing it up will keep you engaged and make your revision more interesting and less monotonous.

  4. Take a break: Hours of revision can leave you feeling lethargic and make it difficult to concentrate. Take regular breaks, get outside for some fresh air, and give yourself time to switch off so that you return to your revision refreshed and ready to focus again.

  5. Sleep: We all feel better after a good night’s sleep, and getting lots of sleep is very important while you are preparing for your exams. A good night’s sleep will enable you to absorb everything you have learnt during the day and help you feel motivated for more revision in the morning.

Now, you are armed with the toolkit to make your revision a productive and hopefully stress-free experience. Don’t forget that if you are feeling overwhelmed while preparing for your exams, you are not alone. Your family, friends, and teachers are all there for you and want to help you succeed, so be sure to reach out to them if you need any support.
