Settling In - Events and Information Sources for New Parents

For many new parents, the start of the Autumn Term can feel like a baptism of fire. Here at Redmaids' High Junior School, we know that the tailspin of initial questions and answers can feel unsettling. All information starts to seem like information overload. Other parents are helpfully introducing themselves on What’s App. But you don’t know what they look like. The school gates present a happy crowd that you’re not sure how to access. The girls, of course, are fine - because you’re supporting them beautifully! Well done! Here’s how we can support you to feel as comfortable, happy and confident as your daughters.

Firstly, a question is never a problem - just ask. Start by contacting your daughter’s class teacher by email. Or contact the Junior School Office - juniors@redmaidshigh.co.uk. Secondly, be reassured that many of the class teachers and support staff are also parents. We really do understand your perspective! And thirdly, we have a programme of events over the coming weeks to make sure you quickly feel at home in the school community.

Meet and Greet Events

New Parents’ Welcome Evening - Tuesday 13th September 7.00 - 8.30pm
A great opportunity to meet the staff and fellow parents in the Junior School Hall. There will be a short introduction to the iPad and Hub at the beginning, so please bring your daughter’s iPad. The Hub will soon become your go-to location on your phone - we’ll make sure you are up and running with this invaluable resource.

New Parents to Breakfast - Friday 16 September 7.30 – 8.15am
New parents are invited to join their children in the Junior School Hall for coffee and pastries. This is an opportunity to welcome the new term in and experience the delights of breakfast club together. Start your day as your daughters do - with food, fellowship and fun! Sign up for this event on the hub or by clicking the link here.

World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – Friday 23 September 8.45 –10.30am
We are looking forward to our coffee morning on Friday 23 September to support the Macmillan charity. This a great opportunity to catch up with parents in all year groups as well as help support a marvelous cause.

New Parents to Lunch – Monday 26 – Friday 30 September                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Any new parents, or those who joined Redmaids’ High part way through last year, are invited to join their daughter for lunch on one of the above days. It’s roast pork on Wednesdays and the chocolate brownie is always a winner! Experience the happy chatter of the dining hall on the Senior School site and tuck in! Sign up for this event on the hub or by clicking the link here.

Sources of Information

The Hub - access to your daughter’s timetable, homework tasks, Operoo, parent/teacher evening booking system, copies of Friday bulletins, the school calendar and the sports app - all in one place, from your phone or computer, whenever and wherever.

The Friday Bulletin - tells you everything you need to know for the coming week, plus advance notice of future events. Go through this document forensically and you won’t go far wrong!

The Junior School Calendar - plan ahead, check term dates, work out any weekend and evening commitments here.

The Sports App - dates and locations for fixtures, with team sheets added the week before a match.
