‘Brain Day’ Inspires Future Scientists at Redmaids’ High

It was a privilege to welcome Dr Guy Sutton, Director of Medical Biology Interactive, to Redmaids’ High for our bespoke ‘Brain Day’ conference, designed especially for our Sixth Form Psychology and Medical Science students.

Throughout the day, Dr Sutton delivered a series of engaging and thought-provoking lectures exploring some of the most fascinating areas of modern Neuroscience. Students were introduced to topics such as the structure of neurons and the brain, the effects of addiction, biological rhythms and sleep, and theories of criminal behaviour.

One of the day’s highlights was undoubtedly the sheep brain dissection, where students had the rare opportunity to observe and explore the intricate structures they had been learning about in class. This hands-on experience helped bridge the gap between theory and real-world science, sparking curiosity and lively discussion across the Sixth Form.

The event offered a powerful insight into studying Neuroscience, Psychology, Criminology, and Medical Sciences at university level, and highlighted how Redmaids’ High continues to provide unique, specialist opportunities for students to explore the subjects they love in depth.

Our Head of Psychology, Mrs Domone, said:

'We’re always looking for ways to extend learning beyond the classroom. Dr Sutton’s sessions gave our students a real sense of what it means to think and work like a scientist - and it’s been wonderful to see the enthusiasm it’s sparked.'

The day concluded with students brimming with new questions and insights, many of which have continued to fuel vibrant classroom discussions in the days since.

Events like Brain Day are a testament to Redmaids’ High’s commitment to offering enriching, university-style learning experiences that inspire curiosity, confidence, and academic ambition.

Join us at one of our upcoming Open Events to experience our vibrant Sixth Form community and meet the teachers who inspire this level of curiosity every day. Click HERE to inquiry abut the school visit.
